As I alluded to in my social media feed on Friday, the outrageous verdict in the killing of Kate Steinle in San Francisco, has rocked America from sea to shining sea. When I read the news late Thursday evening, that Jose Garcia Zarate was found not even guilty of manslaughter, it rocked me to my very core, as it did many people. In the wake of this travesty of justice, and that is exactly what it is, we need to understand that we have arrived at a watershed moment in American society.
Why is this moment so pivotal you may ask? First, Zarate was a 5-time offender of our immigration laws, and 5 times he was deported. On the sixth time that he illegally entered the United States, he was caught by the San Francisco authorities, who US Immigration ordered the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department to hold Zarate for deportation. Due to San Francisco having a law that prohibits cooperation with U.S. Immigration authorities, they let him go. What resulted was him getting his hands on a weapon that fired, and killed Kate Steinle. This all took place near the Embarcadero, a popular local and tourist area that many people visit each day.
The very fact that the City of San Francisco would have the audacity to pass such a ridiculous law to begin with is utterly ridiculous. We have a Supremacy Clause in the Constitution, and it applies to every city, town, and cattle-trail in the USA. It certainly does not exempt any government authority from being under that authority, and that applies to San Francisco. However, this city, and many others like it, have been allowed to pass such ordinances with impunity, with zero response from the federal government.
This law led directly to the death of Kate Steinle, and there is no way that anyone could credibly say otherwise. Had Zarate been detained, as ordered and as required by federal law, Ms. Steinle would be alive today, because Zarate would be behind bars awaiting deportation. Instead, because of a stupid law, that I believe to be 100% illegal in the first place, that woman is now dead. What is very troubling is, why this law was allowed to stand in the first place, and why has not our federal government done something about it?
Politics As Usual
The simple fact is, it all comes down to politics trumping the rule of law. You see, Kate Steinle’s case is not the only miscarriage of justice. In the last 3-5 years, we have seen politicians with clear-cut evidence of violating federal laws, not have so much as an indictment against them levied. Some could run for President of the United States, such as the case with Hillary Clinton and her illegal home email server. We even had the FBI Director James Comey testify before Congress, that had it been anyone else in a similar situation, they would likely face prosecution. But that didn’t happen with Mrs. Clinton did it? Political power played every bit into her lack of prosecution, and in the case of Ms. Steinle, politics played a major role in her killer being exonerated. The whole reason why such a law exists in the City of San Francisco, is that the city is run by left-winged ideologues, that believe in open borders. To be even more clear, they do not believe, nor recognize, our federal immigration laws, because they believe everyone deserves to be here. If you do not believe like them, you are a racist.
So, with a precedent of one set of laws applying to certain classes of people, in hindsight, the Steinle verdict should not surprise us. Of course, it is still no less upsetting, but what else should we expect of those we elect to govern over us? Who are these people that we elect to positions of power? Why does it seem more and more each day that justice is not just miscarried, but thrown out altogether?
The answer is simple, but many will reject it outright. Our American society is in this situation, because we have turned our backs on G-d and our L-rd Yeshua. We are a nation that knows G-d and His Commandments, but we have turned our backs on Him. The Bible illustrates that when a nation does this, complete and utter chaos sets in and destroys that society.
Matthew 24:12 “And the love of many will grow cold, due to increased distance from Torah.”
The “Torah” is the law of G-d on how our spiritual and civil lives are to be conducted. Yeshua said Himself, “If you love me, you will keep My Commandments.” G-d handed down His Word so that society would have justice, and justice is based solely upon His Word.
Cities like San Francisco are like a modern-day Sodom and Gomorrah. Those two ancient cities were wicked cities, completely devoid of any obedience to the law. We have cities that celebrate the gay lifestyle, even to the point of indoctrinating children that are Pre-K into accepting their immorality. Arrogant government leaders from local, state, and federal levels feel that they are above the law, and can do whatever they want. Across America, we have leaders that are in positions of power, because the electorate failed to seek G-d’s face on who they should vote for, because their own spiritual lives are a wreck. We are reaping what we have sowed.
This brings us back to Kate Steinle, and the travesty that occurred on Thursday in court. What message is that city and state sending? That message is, “You can break our federal laws, and we won’t report you. If you commit a crime, even murder, there will be no consequences.” I read some remarks from a talk-show host today who said, “The state of California is sending the message that it is an unsafe state.” I firmly agree with this assessment, but it’s not limited to California, or the City of San Francisco. This is spreading across the nation like cancer, and it needs to be dug out.
The only way to root out the corruption, the lawlessness, and the utter lack of caring that is going on in our society is nothing short of a revival in America. This nation needs to collectively get on its knees and pray first for forgiveness of its sin of abandonment of G-d, and for opening the door for all these horrible atrocities to take place in our nation. We need to seek Yeshua (Jesus) and ask Him to restore a right spirit in every man, woman, and child in this land.
“Create in me a clean heart O G-d, and renew a right spirit in me.” Psalm 51:10
Only by doing this, can we even begin to hope that miscarriages of justice, like what happened with the trial of Jose Zarate, become a thing of the past, never to happen again. When we get on our knees and pray hard for true change in our lives, and seek his righteousness, only then will we be able to, with G-d’s help, to ensure that godly men and women will be placed in governmental offices and govern justly.
This is a watershed moment for sure in America. Will we be a nation that returns to G-d and His justice, or, will our nation continue down the path of complete and utter annihilation? The clock is ticking.
